Do you mean: - when you fill up? - when you are driving? - when you are reversing? - first thing in the morning? get signed on as a member (free, takes only a couple of minutes) then you can access the ARCHIVE. Search for "petrol smell" or similar and all will be revealed. Hope this helps "give a man a fish and he will eat today, give a man a rod and line and he will eat for the rest of his life" |

It is the fuel that the MGF uses! Seriously thought there are a number of reasons:- Porous tank - some early cars had this problem. Twisted filler and/or breather tube - very common problem easily sorted if you know what you are doing. Petrol leak - the engine is just behind your head and fumes can enter the car from the engine bay. Ted |

I got a petrol smell once when I filled up at a BP garage in Carlisle. I was battling to fill the tank because the pump kept clicking of irrespective of how slowly I tried to fill. Because I wasn't paying proper attention the petrol overflowed and I had a petrol smell for about two days, but it did eventually clear. |

Hi guys, I had a petrol smell in my 97 VVC mostly in the mornings but otherwise ok. I think as Ted pointed out there were problems with the tanks on early cars. Think there may be some more in the archives on this. Tony |
