Standard TF and Trophy solid mounts are fabricated steel. Not cast. Not heard of cast ones |

Interesting. Any pictures? |

Any chance of these causing stress-cracking of the stadard subframe? Chris |

Chris, I was told by a MG Rover cheif body engineer that the mounting point on the body was reinforced for solid mounts as they experienced cracking of the body mount under extreme Belgian Pave (block paved roadway) testing. His suggestion was to ensure that the fit of the mount to the body is a close flush fit withj the mount flat to the body ro spread the load evenly. This though was under fairly extreme testing conditions unlikely to be experienced in normal use. |

Fitting solid subframe mounts means that loading is shared between subframe and body. The resulting assembly is better able to cope than two individual items. The failure referred to above occurred on a test where the front subframe rear mounting point had a piece of seam weld standing proud - this meant that the mount did not sit flush to the body. On the Pave test, fretting occurred which cracked the body. Cheers, Andy |
