MG MGF Technical - Sourcing a new CAT

A week after my 'F skimmed through its MOT with high-ish CO levels (low HC).., my car has now begun to rattle terrible at low temperatures.

Putting 2'and'2 together - I need a new CAT.

I have searched the archive. I know Fuel Parts do one for the 1.8i for 150 notes, but this has decreased performance in the VVC.

Anyone know a cheap place to get one for the VVC, and how much?

Neil H

Before you jump right in there have a look at the cat, it has a heatsheild which rattles against it, push it back and see if this cures your problem.

Will
You really want an ecxcuse to change the cat don't you!
Will Munns

I knew you'd say that will :-)

I honestly don't. I'm flat broke after getting the rear half of the TF conversion done..
..however, I think the CAT's had it.
I went away for three weeks. Now that I'm back the car seems to be running slow, its skimmed its MOT, there's a rattle a low speed and I can't think its anything else.

I'll try and heatshield and, then, if no luck, I think I'll speak to Victoria for a CAT bypass to test the theory.

Why not speak to her about a CAT, they are breakers after all so I'm sure they'd be able to provide you with a hardly used one for a good price.

some of your ideas are a bit radical Phil!
JohnP

Well, yes, I will get a CAT too.., but only if needed.

I could probably get a bypass for 40notes, and that gives me time to investigate, a chance to cut my risks, and I noticed they go on ebay for £39 (this morning) used! So it'd only cost me a quid!

Neil H

There a couple of cat bypass pipes on ebay at the moment ~ cheap.
