Check the archives Peter - I think that the outer ball joint is actually a Rover 200 part, which may be easier to source?

Otherwise contact either Mike Satur or Brown and Gammons for the part.

Good luck

Thanks for the info . I'm not going to hold my breath though. While looking for this part I have heard of all kinds of people with Rover cars waiting for parts as far back as Jan this year.

There is no shortage of parts, it's just the Cat Logistics system of getting them to dealers has collapsed. Things have already reacehd the bottom of the curve and recent action taken by both Cat and MG Rover should get the parts supply back to what it used to be. There is in place the option for dealers to arange collection of parts from Longbridge to aleviate customers waiting for the Cat system to get off the floor. No doubt there are a few grins within Unipart House!!

The lower ball joint is specific to the MGF, with it being adapted from the Rover Metro. The nearest is the lower ball joint for the Rover Metro using the 185/55 tyres, i.e. GTa and GTi models. Even so this is a different part number. Certainly the 'cooking' Metro lower joint is different again. Quite whether the Quinton Hazell parts suppliers of the world have got as far as commisioning the MGF ball joint do Halfords and similar will stock I can't say.

BTW, I would not buy and mount a second hand lower arm with ball joint.
Very difficult to check in advance whether the ball joint is not pre-damaged or already worn.

Get your garage to hassle everyone at MGF they can think of. Mine managed to get me an HG set in 5 weeks!

Also - do try MS and B&G.
