MG MGF Technical - Speed Trap Detector positioning

Hi

After a nasty experience with a speed camera and a lucky escape via a court appearance, I have bought a GPS speed camera locator..

I was wondering if anyone else has such a device.. I have plumped for the Origin Blue i after researching the products available a bit.

My reason for asking is that I am trying to work out the best place to locate it... it is about the size of a pack of cards but has a GPS arial with a reciever on the end which needs to run to the windscreen. It needs to be accessible from the drivers seat.

Any ideas are greatly appreciated.. :-)

The GPS signal will pass through glass but not metal so keep it on the dash board where it can receive the GPS satelites and you can then also see it.

How did you get off?

Hi

I was caught on the camera nr Great Barford on the Roxton Road. I was returning from Cambridge to Luton on a lovely evening .. roof down :-))

The camera is outside of the village area still on open road .. but just inside the 30mph zone and I was caught doing 60 oops..

I didnt get off completely but managed to get away with 5 points and a 200 quid fine .. I am an IT consultant and use my car daily so for me avoiding a ban was 'getting off' :-))

You could mount it on the RHS of the windscreen (if it has a mount that has suckers...) and power it from the connectors in the fusebox taking a wire up through the gap in the trim in the corner of the screen...

My snooper is mounted there.

5 points and £200 not bad for doing 60 in a 30. That's the problem with a car that accelerates quickly out of villages, I suppose! 8D

I also have the Origin Blue i.
All the GPS speed camera locators are legal as long as they “do not interfere with Police equipment” – definitely saved me a few times!

Hi Alan,

Where have you mounted your Origin Blue i?

Cheers,

Chris,

How much will a origin blue i cost me ?
Also how reliable is it ?

Mine was £399 which is a bit pricey but I use my car for my work so keeping my license is worth all of that..

I havent received mine yet but reports are that because it is GPS based and so doesnt rely on radar reflections it is very reliable .. also apparently the database is kept very well meaning that you dont get alarms for old cameras and they add new cameras very quickly..

Chris,
My Blue i is mounted on the dashboard using the supplied mounting bracket. I don’t leave it in the car if unattended; just put it in the boot. It only takes a few seconds to plug into the cigarette lighter.

Nick,
There is separate modem and it takes about 2 minutes for the weekly update (optional!). I have yet to find a camera that is not in the database.
It does not know if the cameras are “live” but does detect if they are reversible or just in the direction of travel. It is sound activated, display’s distance countdown, and has flashing lights - so to not notice you would have to be asleep!

Thanks Alan, the dashboard was where I was thinking too, I have recieved mine now and just driving with it on the passenger seat it seems to be working flawlessly so far.. The only thing is there is so much lead on the GPS receiver and power lead that I am wondering where to put it all :-)

Anyone seen this new one from Snooper? http://www.snooper.co.uk/snooper-s6-r-gatso-and-radar-detector.htm

Supposed to be GPS AND Laser/Radar detector in one so should help spot mobile cameras too...
