MG MGF Technical - Squeal on braking
i think it's my front right wheel, high pitched squeel when braking, been happening a while now, they are Trophy 4 Pots with 305mm Dics, any idea what i can do to solve annoying noise, pads don't seem to look worn ,looks like and plenty on them, Dave |

Standard pads Dave? I don't have any first hand experience with these calipers, but do they use anti-squeal shims? |

Dave I have 4 pot AP brakes fitted and mine were squealing like a London bus until yesterday. The grooves on the rear of the pad were full up with muck and there was no grease left on one pad. Pad removal, a clean up and a new application of coppergrease cured the problem. I believe Mike Satur was advocating the same procedure on a thread some time ago but it is one of those jobs that you put off and only tend to do when the pad needs changing. David |

David, I trust that the cooper grease was applied to the BACK OF THE PAD and not the friction surface? ;o) ;o) ;o) |

DCM Have you got a bin liner trapped in the caliper? Otherwise, I strongly recommend pads out and good scrub with a stif'ish brush, also the caliper channels, then copperslip on back of pads. Oftem beneficiasl to wipe round the piston seals with a small amout of brake fluid while all in bits. Get a spray can of brake/clutch cleaner from your local car shop for a general squirt clean before the detail work starts. gets rid of all dust. |

Turn the tunes up loud enough to drown out the brake squeal. Its a very cheap fix. ;-) |
