MG MGF Technical - SRS Airbag
Have checked the archive on this one. Lots of conflicting infromation. The red wplastic wiring connector has been pulled apart by the seat being moved backwards and forwards constantly. Both of the brown leads have now come away from the red plastic thing - it is not possible to get leads back into that half of the connector. So I need a new red connector - does anyone have any idea how much ? Alos i need to know which of the the two brown wires goes into which slot. Plain Brown wire - matches with blue wire Brown wire with red stripe - matches with blue wire red stripe. Can someone look under their drivers seat and let me know please. Urgent - cos the battery is disconnected and I daren't wire it back up until this job is finished. Chris |

http://www.mgfcar.de/schedules/sb36.jpg doesn't match your discription, so I guess that the wiring changed on the pretentioners, look at the diag and compare between sides. You will not get the conector unless cut off a scrapper, you can only buy the connectors with the loom 8-( |

Grim news. Infact terrible news. I read in the archive that you can just solder the wires together ? Clearly i'll have to know which wires to solder. Which at the minute is a problem |

Not too grim, just find another connector with twin poles and use that. I wouldn't solder the seat in, or you'll have terrible trouble if you need to pull it out for anything. |

I called the deal - who said that the part was £145. So I guess I'm on the hunt for a scrap car with the connector. |

Can't help with the wire colours as my car is safe and warm at home. However, you could use a piece of terminal strip to repair the wiring. You can get this in strips from B&Q etc. and cut off the two sections you will need. Then the seat can be removed without unsoldering. |

Brian - thanks for the note. So the red connector which it waso riginally fitted with doesn't serve any other purpose than connecting these wires together. So - i can in effect connect them with terminal strip, electrical tape - what ever I like. My concern, apart from making sure that I wire the right ones together is that the red connector which retails from your local MGF dealer at £105 serves some other purpose rather than just being a rather overly elaborate and flimsy piece of terminal strip. My guess is that becase it's part of the SRS system then there's a large safety aspect that demands higher quality connectors. But it is a connector. No more. P. |

Could anyone take a digital pic close up of the wires going into the red connector and post it up on the site please. It would be a great help. |

Check SRS seat site http://www.mgfcar.de/seat/index.htm Is this close enough ? http://www.mgfcar.de/seat/stecker_cp_2392.jpg :) Dieter |

Dieter, Almost. I can see the blue wire and I can see the blue wire with the red stripe. But on the other side I can see a brown wire and another wire where thecolour is not clear. On the brown side I need to see which is brown and which is brown with red stripe. Can you let me know? |
C James |
can't help more with it currently. The pic was taken two years ago. Anyway, regarding all manuals and diagrams the bi-coloured wires at the SRS are earth. The single colour wires feed plus. Does this help ? Very confusing though. |
Dieter K. |
Dieter - are you saying join the two bi coloured wires ? and then the two single colour wires together ? Is this correct ? |
