MG MGF Technical - srs light

I recently bought an MGF in a private sale. Only had it about 2 months now and this morning the SRS light stayed on. It doesn't flash or turn off and then back on it just stays on constantly.

I'm only 19 so am worried about the cost of the repairs for it.

Does anyone know what it might be that has caused this?

Kirsty,

Looking through the archives its most commonly caused by the plug becomming undone.

Look under the drivers and passenger seat and you will find a cable. This has to be undone when unbolting the car seat from the floor and then lifting out the car seat. Sometimes if you are sitting in the seat and you move the seat forward or back it becomes unplugged.

Just check this is plugged in ok on bot passenger and drivers seat.

I also belive if this isn't unplugged you shouldn't take it apart and re-join it without first disconnecting the battery as this could activate the airbag!

I have the same problem and it doesn't seem to be the connector under the seat. I'm thinking most likely it was an electrical fault that caused it to come on and that the rover dealer may have a magical computer to fix this.

I will find out for sure next week as am off to the garage for some suspension repairs.

My light only comes on in very hot weather so it has been alot lately. However with my MOT due shortly will it fail if it is on? Is there any way of stopping it lighting up?
John

if it comes on in hot weather only then it may be gunk buildup in the connectors, get some contact cleaner from maplins or simmiler and take them apart and give a good spray and then plug/unplug a few times. you may also have to do this on the rotory coupler.

John...it's only on the warning sheet for the MOT...so it's only your own safety you have to be worried about ;-)

Mine is now in this friday and will hopefully have been solved!

Cheers Dan.
