MG MGF Technical - stalling car with window conrols.

As the title suggests I discovered lunchtime that my window controls have the ability to stall my F.
If i attempt to open both windows at the same time when they are already fully open the revs drop very low and occasionally so low that the car stalls. Is this normal and will it lead to anything more serious?

Thanks,

Nik

Maybe this is caused by a dead/flat battery? or faulty altenator?
Kingsley

I'll second what Kingsley said. This happens to my mates BMW M3 convertible, it only happens when he is at low revs and steers, ie, the EPAS drains the electrics.

Hi all,
being able to stall the engine by increasing current drawn can be an indication of the IAC-valve in wrong position. Make a re-set as per archive and see if it helps. You might get some initial mile or two with some hesitation, high idle etc. but it will settle after a while. If that doesn´t help it is probably related to MEMS and the continous variable ignition timing not working as intended. It is in fact this timing variation that when working keeps the engine on a steady idle when warm...

I must admit on idle when lowering or raising the windows the revs do drop slightly and have done since the car was new, but has never stalled or nearly stalled.

As the other suggest you have a problem, maybe take it to a battery supplier who has test equipment to test both the battery and alternator.

When I had a new battery before christmas one place said the battery was on it last legs (tested under load) which I did tend to agree but they did not have a battery to fit so went else where and they said the battery was fine (just voltage no load) but instead the alternator was not 100% at idle but when reved it was okay.

Car aprts suppliers say some funny things don't they:
"the alternator was not 100% at idle but when reved it was okay" which is probably why the ignition warning light is on at idle and only goes out when the revs get a bit higher. Can't be bothered to go out and look but it was about 1400 rpm on my Mondeo before alternator output was greater that system requirements.

Sorry aprts should be parts but was nearly something else!

n stretton,

No offense, but lets be honest your mgf is a Friday afternoon car.
It goes wrong all the time.
Have you even had a 3 month period with no faults?

If any car gave me this much grief, Id get rid asap.
Im not taking the p155, but theres so many Fs for sale, there is hardly a shortage of decent Fs for under 6000.

It's not a fault, it's a feature that lets you know that you can remove your fingers from the window contols because the windows can't get lower.

Sounds like asking for trouble, to me.
