MG MGF Technical - Starter Motor

Can anyone tell me how much it should cost to have a starter motor replaced and how much time it takes to do the job? I've been quoted £150 for the sm and £96 labour - is this in line??

my local MGR dealer charges £65 + VAT per hour, my local handyman garage charges £38 + VAt per hour so cost will depend where you go. I've never changed an MGF starter motor but a front engined car should take about 45 mins max.

Lucy...whereabouts are you? There are many good independents that could be recommended depending on your location...
Blue Max

Thanks for all comments, I'm based in Manchester and my local dealer charges £71 per hour. Do you think smaller local garages are as good when dealing with MGFs or is it better to go to a dealer considering I know nothing about my MGF except that it looks nice?
Lucy

The F is not special, the engine/gearbox layout is exactly the same as it would be in a FWD car, with slightly more limited access, just moved from the front to the back. As long as you have a good local garage (ask for recomendations) they should easily be able to change a starter for you.
Will Munns

Agree with Will. I'm an accountant / IT Manager not a mechanic but I would be happy changing a starter motor on an MGF. I would, of course, be even happier paying somebody a reasonable amount to do it for me but if needs must ...
