MG MGF Technical - Starting Problem
Hi!!! Yesterday after 2 weeks and a half, I'try to use my F to go shopping (my F is 1.8i may 2001) Turning the key to the first position, I wait for the little noise to stop. Turn the key again, starter works fine and engine start. Hear began the Pb. Engine at 1100 Rpm (normal when start), but very noisy and make the car vibrating as if the combustion is not ok. Went off the car to check at the back, Engine sound strange and there is smell of burning oil but no smoke. after 30s the engine start suffocating and yellow engine warning light went on. Stop ASAP the engine. Chek Oil and water level : OK. No Oil in water and no water or moisture on oil dipstick. Wait for 2 min, start again. It works fine, no more noise, no smell, everything as usual. Gone for shopping. Start ok for the return too and this morning also. For my point of view, Some oil came into cylinder and make a bad combustion when first start. Somebody had a similar PB ? maxime |

Sounds more like the auto choke (or whatever these new fangled devices have) got stuck on and flooded the system. Switching off cleared it. Ted |

>Sounds more like the auto choke No such thing on the F, the fuel is enriched using the standard injectors, and the air is let in using a idle air control valve. Will |

Will That is why is put the bit about whatever in brackets. So as I should have said:- the automatic fuel enrichment device was malfunctioning - that better Will? Ted |

>automatic fuel enrichment device was malfunctioning That would be the MEMS then? |

Must add that Temperature change a lot since the last time I use it: 20° 2weeks ago 7° now... could do something don't you think so ? maxime |

>That would be the MEMS then? < A distinct possibility! As is the fact that the software engineer(s) responsible for this piece of equipment did not do a very good job - but they will probably come up with their favourite argument "put rubbish in and you get rubbish out" - never have understood that one when 'software' crashes for no operator obvious reason So Maxime did you put any 'rubbish' in your tank? Seriously - it could be a number of things and frankly if it has cleared itself I would not worry too much, as to me it still sounds like a 'choked' engine or perhaps a spark plug playing up. However if it happens again then get the car checked over - Testbook might have registered the problem. Ted |

>As is the fact that the software engineer(s) responsible for this piece of equipment >did not do a very good job Oh I don't know about that, if that was the case then they would all be broken, and when they broke they would 'only' need reseting, not replaceing, the replacement suggests that they fail electricly. >never have understood that one when 'software' crashes for no operator obvious reason Ah, well that is because the phraze has been missused! GIGO is about trusting what the computer says when you feed it rubbish, crashing is (almost) always due to bad design, unless the design says it should shut down gracefully. If it reoccurs then it might be a faulty injector alowing petrol to leak thru when off. Or it could be a missfire caused by water in the HT system, the short time running alows it to heat up suffecently to clear the problem, or it could be worn valve guides alowing oil into the engine (I would expect it to use oil), or any number of things. |
