MG MGF Technical - STARTING PROBLEMS

Hi,

I'm new to owning an MGF, so please forgive me if this is a FAQ !.

In all this damp weather, several times my VVC has been reluctant to start.Would this problem be helped by changing the H.t leads ?.If so, can anyone recommend a specific brand ?

Thanks !,
Stuart.
STUART

HT leads could well be the problem, Try Mike Satur or the B&G links which appears at the head of the page, a lot of people (myself included) use Magnicor leads about 40 quid.

Another potential weak point could be the coil, some early VVC's had a problem.

Probebly, I have the Magnacore performance leads from Brown and Gammonds (but they are stocked in a number of places). Remember to get the VVC version (you have two coils)

Otherwise it is probebly water getting in the coils, they are very badly placed in the VVC, someone (carl?) repositioined them to get them out of the rain, but I didn't see pictures so I don't know where he put them.

PS ensure you order the VVC HT leads they differ from those for the non-VVC.

Beat you to it Will.

Hey I'm dyslexic and have a note from the doctor to prove it, so their not typo's as much as braino's ;-)

And I mnaged to get in the location of the coils, and the name of someone who had done something about them so nerrr ;-P

You forgot to mention plugs and gaps. Check the gaps are set to minimum limit 0.8mm from memory.

If you're car's over 25K miles, I suggest also replacing the spark plugs.

Mine's getting a bit ropey at starting again, so I think I'll also be investing in some new HT leads!
