MG MGF Technical - Steam/Coolant smell
Weird but yesterday I had a steamy/coolant smell in the cabin (despite roof down) - no loss of coolant apparently - what is the best way to access the radiator and what else should I be looking for?? Thankyou Worried of Cheadle (actually Nick of Leeds)

Under what conditions did you get this smell ? Was it just after the car warmed up - ie when the thermostat opened ? Is it possible that the radiator or heater matrices were soaked and you could just smell the water boiling off on the outside ? Steve (with a smelly clutch - also worried !)

I had the same problem finally solved a few days later when I got out of the car after a short drive and steam was coming out the engine vents. Turned out to be a heater hose.

Also the heater has been known to leak, press firmly on the carpet at the front of the car to check that is is not wet deep in.

Radiator access, see at first from below. Access from top is loosening the top cover. Both wings should be removed as well, but I recall Mike Satur said recently anything about unbolting the front and upper bolts only will do the job. (See archives) > what else should I be looking for ? Coolant expansion tank cap and all the crap hose clips. Dieter

Didn't seem so bad later today.... I will have a good look round 2night and post again 2morrow....
