MG MGF Technical - steptronic

Hi

I am thinking of buying a W plate steptronic MGF with 27K on the clock. What is the general opinion of the steptronic? Any thoughts would be great.

I have had no problems with my 2003 TF120 (other than HGF, fixed under warranty, a while back). Have done about 50,000km so far. It goes very well. East to drive in traffic, a good cross country cruiser. Have a test drive and see what you think. If you have driven a manual F, don't expect the steptronic to perform as well.

I have put 22k on the clock in my 2002 steptronic since april! A great pleasure. Honestly, I would not have bought an MGF without steptronoc. So when I found one in Trondheim, Norway i january, I went for it! Due to our climate, it rests in an heated garage til april 2007!

I've got no idea what is going on. I go to the home page, log on again, get the Welcome Mr Courtney message, click the BBS link, and I am still Landon Jasper. At least it seems to be a little more consistent. I will try getting a new user id next.....

Food for thought. A friend with a late F fitted with steptronic recently got a horrible screaming noise from the gearbox. Turned out there is a bearing which commonly fails and his had gone. Think it cost £800 ish to just replace this bearing. Will now be OK as I understand the original bearing was of a cheap type...

I wonder why ZF would use a cheap bearing in a box that they make a lot of? I take it the rest of the components are top quality?
