MG MGF Technical - Still cut out and still wont start !

Am i the only person with an F that just wont start ?
I'm thinking maybe it's the crank sensor, because i have definatly got sparks and fuel, just (it would appear) not in the same cylinder at the appropriate time.
The question is how do i get to the crank sensor ?
The car's in a thousand pieces under my car port at the moment and the missus (and me) are tearing our respective hair out because she's going to have to use my Pontiac Trans Am to get to work tomorrow and i quote "it's big, noisy and the steering wheel's on the wrong side"
Can anyone please help ?

MP,

How certain are you that it's getting fuel. Can you hear the pump run for several seconds when you 1st turn the ignition on?

If it's not, then it could be the pump giving trouble.
Have a look at www.apttony.co.uk

The CKS sensor is at the rear (car) side of the engine, on the left hand side (facing the engine).

The fuel pump is buzzing for a few seconds when i turn the ignition on and when i was checking for sparks the plugs were wet with petrol.
I've since found the crank sensor (after i took the cam belt covers off) "Bugger" but i don't know how to test it ?
I have now checked all under bonnet electrical connections and nothing is burned or corroded.

The CMP Sensor is a magnetic coil. Not sure how to test. It delivers a voltage signal if it works. I think it should have a low resistance if you measure this just static.

May be a comparison with the resistance of the CKP (crank shaft sensor) helps, cause it could be the same design.

Only in German currently, with no testing hints :(

A peak reading DVM will show if it's working - but you need an oscilloscope to check signal timing. I would be surprised if you got sparks or fuel with a broken crank sensor.
Is there any history here ? ie. has a problem been developing over time, or has any work been done on the car immediately before this problem ?
Is it a VVC or MPi - and what year ?

I've just seen your other thread :- "Cut out & just will not start" and would certainly look to HT components - esp coil (even if you can get sparks outside the cylinder) and distributor.
