MG MGF Technical - Sub frame allignment help needed

My F has a different front to rear wheen distance on either side. Can it be adjusted by loostening the sub frame and moving it. Is there enough play in the mount holes? How do I determine if it's front or rear sub frame that is out. Is there a technical resource that gives measuring points and measurements.

I know I have heard that it could be from an accident and a mm out one place can mean heaps elsewhere but I guess I have to start somewhere.

I'm getting oversteer and tramlining as well so I first want to get wheel distance correct and toe in so measurements will help tremendously.

What is the correct wheel distance?

What are the measurements and how big a difference have you measured? I recently measured track, wheelbase and the diagonals and the largest error I found was 2.5mm. I was amazed it was so accurate.

It was a few years ago when it was pointed out to me. I think they said it was something like either 18 or 35 mm. I remember it was a substantial amount. I'm about to get new bushes for the subframe having done the rest of the suspension. I just want to get this distance part right. I figure I need to establish if it's the front or the rear thats out so any fixed points of freference are helpfull in terms of where to measure from. I might try to measure it again myself tonight but all I can do is left f to r and right f to r and from wheel centres to maybe the edge of the guard. I'll post these figures .

All the measuring points and Dimensions are in the Body Repair Manual included in the MGR Maintenance CD.

Thanks Geoff F
Where would I get a copy of the CD from?
Ken
Thanks for your interest. I measured it crudely at home and it was the 18mm figure. LH is aprox 2383 close to spec 2380 but rh is 2365. I tried to measure each wheel against a panel point but couldnt discern any difference which is my reason for seeking datum points.
It was pointed out to me today that from the info on my last allignment that there is a considerable difference between the F L&R cambur and castor so my guess is that the previous owner hit an object on the F R so i'll focus my measurements there as it's most probable that the F R is pushed back.

Thankspeople, I'll try to obtain datum point info and go from there. It's been short but helpfull.
I will post my findings when that occurs.

In further researching this I have discovered that there are 4 x2 sets of subframe bushes which I hadn't counted on when I ordered a suspension bush poly kit. I'll replace those and check the ? notorious subframe mount bolts for looseness.

Meanwhile I will start a new post on another matter of interest.

Cheers & Thanks
