MG MGF Technical - sun is shining...mg dies :-(

Well lovely weather.......have covered 3000k since i bought Mildred the MG 3 months ago......and she has broke boo hoo

Gear selection has been awful since i got the car... it has now got steadily worse until now i cant use 1'st gear at all .....it s as if its blocked off.. tis very strange!!It will occasionally work but not often enough to use it anymore as setting off in second all the time will mean new clutch soon methinks.
The pipe under the car is pouring water out too now .....Poor mildred says she feels very unwell and needs TLC
Emma

Emma,
you should spend some additional gearbox oil to Mildreds gearbox.
She'll be happy then. (Me hopes)

Can't help against pouring water under her, but recommnd checking for pipe corrosion and recommend changing the old cheap hose clamps for some better and stronger.

I.e Mike Satur will have the stuff to get her dry.

:o)

I do sympathise

The wife's car went wrong in a similar way on Saturday! So we are down to the F as our one and only car
Neil

If it's coolant she's lost it needs fixing before you drive it any further. Running it dry will wreck the head gasket.
Techspeed also do a good job of replacing corroded underbody coolant pipes and the radiator at the same time. They also know what they're doing when it comes to refilling and bleeding the system.

Janet's car is a big 5 cyl Fiat Marea Estate, with unusual textured coachwork, but no we drove nowhere with the coolant missing. Greenflag towed to the Fiat shop

Janet isnt into MG's much, more's the pity
Neil

Thanks for your comments guys....i had booked mildred in to have some tlc on monday...popped up the shops for a pint of milk tonight and disaster has struck....gear cables snapped with me stuck in reverse in the middle of a main road!!!! Lots of nice fellas jumped out of a ven to help a damsel in distress and pushed me back into the car park.....boyfriend came to rescue me and crawled underneath to jam it in a forward gear then drove it home. I got to drive his tank like BMW which was hideous!! :-(

I have had a look in my service history and reciept folder i got with the car and have found a reciept from a west mids rover dealer for gearbox cables adn fitting
Part no's ULS 100060
Part No ULS 100070
Price inc VAT..£437.10p

Sorry if i sound stupid but are these the cables that make the gearstick work.mine just feels like its not attached to anything if you get me. On the reciept there is a 12 month guarentee for the work carried out which was only 10 months ago....Could i possible hope that this will be done under warrenty??? I hope so .. i need my pennies for my planned modifications ;-)
Emma
Emma

nfortunately ... you are right :(

ULS100070 will be the broken cable, but a dealer will change both including the longer ULS100060, due to 'his' warranty of actual repair works.

Re Cable!
Sounds like you have a good reason to ask for a repair for no money!

ask and you shall receive

yeah 10 months isnt long enough they will repair it ...they have to.
and 400 odd quid is a bloody ripp off actually!

SERIOUSLY THOUGH
You mentioned a coolant leak!

If you have a coolant leak DONT DRIVE THE CAR!!!!
DONT EVEN THINK IT!!!
DONT EVEN START THE ENGINE!!!

You will kill the engine and it will be ALL YOUR Fault!!!

Neil

lol sorry neil....i wont drive the car...well i cant now anyway!!
Ok it has been removed to the local rover dealer who has said they canteven look at it till at least 7th june and the cheeky gits wont even give me a car to drive.......even though there shoddy workmanship failed after 3500 miles :-o.......

Anyone got any ideas to get a car out of them ( even a city rover will do lol lol)
Emma
Emma

Emma,

Did they say you can't have a courtesy car because they have none in at the moment? If so, get them to put your name down for the first one back in. I had to only wait a day for my wonderful(!) city rover last week. Should be getting the F back tomorrow though - can't wait... although it has been fun thrashing the pants off a brand new city rover...

Whats the name of your local Rover dealer?

Ive had similar problems where I got my MG from, read the thread "MGF Cheetah"

Been a nightmare!
M Frost

Apparently they dont have a car for me till 7th june ........i think not!!!!
I have rang MG Rover customer service at longbridge now, they are going to speak to the dealer and get me some wheels.

I had to laugh though i have just been down in a taxi to get my work stuff out of the boot and lo and behold another F appears on the back of a tow truck. Huge row ensues no courtesy car for the customer. The poor bloke had to share my taxi home !!

MG Rover = disgusting customer service .......gerrrrrr
Emma

Well still no car....MG rover customer service helpline havnt even bothered to ring me back...........and the best bit drove past the dealers last night with a friend and my car was just left ouside all night in the temporary customer parking ( the only car that was ) !!!!!! My car is garaged at night here.. It has NEVER been left outside.

Well i guess they dont really care much about an old tatty R reg MGF i think thats been proven. Stuff the fact its my pride and joy!
I give up i am powerless now to anything i can only hope it doesnt get damaged whilst being parked there ( incidentally they do have a vandalism and stealing problem there as its quite isolated where the dealership is)

Rant over sorry :-(

Emma my dealers in Norwich treat me like s**t too.
My car went in for £800 worth of head gasket replacement, and came back looking like it had been driven through every continent on the planet!
I couldn't even tell that my tyres were black, I hate to think what the heck they had been up to.
I insisted on a valet, and they came out picked it up from work then delivered it back. But shows that they do give a c**p about our cars, but when we go back to trade em in they will treat us like royalty no doubt! (they never ever ring me back either!)
Ian Hamshaw

MG Dealer in Manchester charged us £450.00 to fix the same thing ;-( Emma (dealer we bought the car from wouldn't pay up for it either so we kissed goodbye to the holiday savings) & the car has been back since because the gear change feels worse than ever. The spring that self rights the gear lever is also broken & the want £90 to fix that. Does this seem excessive to anyone???

We are still objecting to shelling out £15 for the radio code after the blwon fuses the other day (problem correctly diagnosed by Will Mumms & fixed with some insulation tape @ minimal cost) on the principle that the cause of the problem was a design fault in the first place. MG dealer recons that getting the serial number for the radio will take 45 minutes, I suggested that as there were in Cheetam Hill why not get one of the local scally element to show them how it's really done & remove the radio in 45 seconds!

To be honest we hadn't realised that the radio code wasn't with the paperwork until the problem arose.

I think I'll be off to buy a lotto ticket, my luck can't get much worse @ the moment!

Cheers
