MG MGF Technical - Switch modification

I intend to use an MGR switch when I fit the B&G boot release I've just bought.

The switch I have is a locking one.

Has anyone modified one of these to be non-locking?

If so - any tips?

I seem to recall seeing something about this on these boards a couple of years ago. Might be worth a trawl through the archives Sam.

I *think* Dieter knows something about this?

Yes I have recently modified the B&G system I removed from the MGF and fitted it to the TF, using the HRW switch to which I have stuck an image of a boot release symbol scanned in from a Rover 75 brochure and modified to suit. The small spade connections of the B&G kit fit the small spades of the switch and as I recall the second from top and the 5th from top provide one suitable switching path.

I am using this in a future Enjoying MG feature so I do not wish to go into any more detail. That is other than to say that if you follow the B&G instructions but simply substitute the HRW switch the job's done.

Hi Sam,

I would suggest getting a Non-Latching one, the latching type can "probably" be modified but will certainly be a pain to do.

When I fitted mine, I went the same way as Roger and used a HRW switch, but not as cunning on the legend.

One other thing, unless you are fitting the button into the "correct" place for it's type, then you will need to modify the fittings as they are all keyed. This is fairly Easy to do with a small file.

P.S. Roger can you email me a copy of the legend you used?
Paul

Rog, I presume that the mod you undertook cannot be applied to 'Mk1' MGF switch gear?

Folks,

I went for the air re-cycling switch because it is keyed to fit the space next to the drivers door window switch.

I managed to convert it by carefully removing the back part with the connections from the main body, and removing the small locking pin. (actually, it fell out!) Slid bits together and PRESTO! a non-locking switch.

Can't wait to fit the kit now.
