MG MGF Technical - switch to heated mirrors

Hi,
As you know heated mirrors in MGF are always on.
Recently I have bought heated rear window switch and would like to connect this switch to heated mirrors.

Does someone have ever tried to modify heated rear window circuit?

best,
Marius

Yes, Carl did and me did also at my very first MGF.

btw. It's one of the most useless mods you could do ;)

We put two switches direct into the door cards RH and LH, cause the wires are difficult and nearly impossible to find behind the fusepanel. (An easy find behind the door panel.)

Just the location at the RH door.

Dieter,
I remember this mod. I would like to make step further. I have bought original heated rear window switch and would like to turn on/off heated mirrors using only one switch (heated rear window switch).

I think that relay must be placed in the circuit to turn off mirrors after few minutes (like it works in everyday normal cars).

Are they always on? I didn't think they worked unless you had a hard-top? In which case, if you've fitted the hard top switch with relay, you now have heated mirrors whether or not the hard top is connected.

Heated mirrors are always on. It doesn't matter if you have hardtop plus switch fitted.

I'm interrested in this mod. I've already thought it would be a good idea...
(it's the way it works in my other car : the heated mirrors are on at the same time as the rear window)

the heated mirrors shed water very fast, I would keep them on just for this reason

The reason for me to fix the switches many years ago was that my "F" was for fine weather driving only.
During the years (over 10 now!) the car has seen damp conditions 2 times. So in this case there is really no need to always have the heat on the mirrors.
For everyday use in UK it is a different thing ;O)

Perhaps a silly question; Do all MGFs have heated mirrors or only those for the British and European market?
I drive a Japanese import 1996

Dave,
My NZ import from 1996 does, plus ABS and aircon - probably a standard export spec.

All had heater but may be yours is damaged.
Heater foil detached from mirror glass or broken connector.
The very early had a quite thick double sided adhesive strip. Laterr they changed to a thin material.

This is a late mirror from inside
