MG MGF Technical - Temperature sensor/gauge
Bought my MGF back in late Aug this year, and been ok till last week. When the water temp gauge started to flicker from normal to zero and back to normal again. Now has stopped working all together..So changed the sensor and checked the fuses. All ok but still not working ! Have run it until gets hot at speed, but still no rise and the fans dont seem to be cutting in either.. Any ideas or has anyone come across this problem too ? |

Which or the two sensors did you change? The brown one on the side does the ECU and thus the radiator fan, the blue or black one on the underside does the guage. |

Hi Deyual I changed the brown one, didnt know there was another. Whereabouts is this situated ? is there a web page that might show me ? Thanks |

It's at the same joint, but directing downwards. Black coloured at the old MGF, the later are blue colour. Before you change it check the connections. http://www.mgfcar.de/sensor/ |

Hi guys after going from garage to garage to get part, temp gauge sensor, finally got it. But screwed it in place and tightened it and damn it broke off in the housing. Now need to know if the housing that the 2 sensors attach too disconects from the cylinder head ? cant quiet see from the pics on the site ! Anyone help on this problem.. I will get this right in the end ! |

Yep, disconnects, two bolts to be accessed. See here #12, and get a new gasket #13 http://www.mgfcar.de/epc/2630.htm |

Thanks Dieter finally found the bolts with a mirror. now changed it put all back together and started it. Let it run for about 15mins, temp gauge now works ! but now have yet another problem. After letting it run to normal temp the car started to cough and splutter and then just cut out. Tried re starting it and it wont have it. Thought maybe not enough fuel in car, but quarter of tank ! so now im really baffled as to why this has now occured, as the car was running fine until the sensor change !!! |

No idea, but ... the connector for the oxygen sensor is quite near to the section were you worked at.... Don't you thing it might be a good idea to have a visit at a proper garage for a reliable analysis and repair ? |

Thanks all for your help. Problem now sorted with help from RAC today. It was the coolant temperater sensor that i fitted was falty. just goes to show that even a new piece can be faulty too hey ! |
