MG MGF Technical - TF 160 Rear Suspension clunk

The rear suspension on my TF 160 has been occasionally clunking for a while when going over small steps in the road, house drive ramps etc. Nothing really to worry about all looks OK and a dealer has checked it over. However, in talking to another dealer’s technician at the weekend he tells me there is a bulletin regarding this and they insert a washer in the suspension to cure it. He hasn't done it to a car yet and from what he remembers the suspension is compressed and the washer(s) slipped in. It sounded like it was coated with something, as they have to wear gloves on H&S grounds. Anyone know anymore before I book it in?

Thanks

i remember the clunk sound when the rear left shock of my 96 1.8i F came loose of its shock bushing. the shock was banging against the lower mounts everytime i drove above uneven road or over bumps.

regards.

I was talking to my Dealer/mechanic yesterday and happened to ask him if there were any bulletins in for the TF and he denied all knowledge. Having said that I think the salesmen use them for toilet paper before the technicians see them.

He did say that they get fewer problems with the TF than any other MGR product, which rather bears out my experience..

Let us know the details when you have had the job done.

This is getting a little worrying...see Norman Law's post on MGF General ("TF With Leather for £16999) where he talks of having a RECALL for rear suspension bush probs on his TF160 in October....cos I haven't had a recall on MY TF160...what on earth's occurring???

Are we getting this confused with the recall check on the suspension earlier in the year?

Cheers

I think its in the above posts, but just to make clear,

A recall is mandatory.

TSB's Technical service bulletins are sent to main dealers all through the life of a car.
These are acted upon when a customer complains of a problem, and then the work is done, parts changed during the warranty period or if you are lucky sometimes later.
A good dealer will check the car against these TSB's when the car is in for service.
But like most things in life you only get something if you ask.

I don't know....are we???

What was THAT all about???

There was a recall of limited vin numbers for a (compliance?) bush change about mid-summer. To the best of my knowledge that is not this problem. I don't want to take it in before I know more. I like to know what 'they' do with 'my' car!
