MG MGF Technical - TF door pods onto Mk 1 cards?
I have some lovely new (to me) seats and matching door pods & top flashes from a TF (A). Unfortunately the door cards from the TF are not as good as the existing ones on my Mk1(B). Is there any other way to fit "A onto B" than drilling "B" to accept the "pins/dowels/clips" from "A" - I'm worried about locating the holes as there are no real reference points to measure from and as the door pull bowl locates in the flash and screws to the door there is little margin for error. I was considering glueing the top flash to the pod using evostick. Then when dry trimming off the fastening pins and fixing to the stripped Mk1 card using "no nails" or similar gap filling adhesive. Hope this makes sense? - Anyone tried this before? - Did it work? Thanks Gareth PS I know I'll have to enlarge the hole to accept the TF door pull bowl. |

Gareth, I am not entirely sure how easy or difficult that would be - I would tend to think that it would be fairly tricky. BUT I haven't tried! A comparison of the TF and Mk1 MGF door cards can be seen here: http://www.mgf.ultimatemg.com/group2/DIY/interior/interior_concept/BRM_concept.htm#Mk1 v Mk2 door cards Good luck! |

Cheers I've had what for me is brainwave!! If I put the LH mk1 card back to back with the RH TF card (and vice versa), my theory is, using the TF card as a template I just drill through the existing TF holes and et voila! holes in the correct place! Am I mad, or is this a goer? Can you tell I need some moral support before destroying a pair of mint MK 1 cards? Ta Gareth |

Ought to work. I would think that you'd have to remove the padding and trim that is currently on the Mk1 trim, and also enlarge the cut out for the door handle. The dimension to watch is the depth of the door card pod area adjacent to the handle cut out. Measure from the back of the door card on the new and old and see whether there is any difference. Good luck - will be very interested to know whether this is possible. If you take pix whilst you're at it, I'd love to host them on my website? |

Just completed the n/s door - using the "back to back" technique. If I say so myself you'd struggle to tell it apart from the factory job. I'd say all in it took about an hour, but now - (after a phone call to an expert - Thanks Mark) - I know how to get the card back on the door I'd expect the o/s to take about 20 mins less. Rob If I can borrow a digital camera while I'm doing the other one tomorrow, I'll forward you some pics and a brief description for your site. Thanks Pleased, but odd doored for the time being.
