MG MGF Technical - TF Problems?
Hi Gang I know i have asked before but is anyone having trouble with their TF? Oil leaks? HGF? Handling? Water Leaks? I now know 2 people with TFs and to my knowage they have had no trouble at ALL! Could this just be a fluke or has MGR moved the TF on build Q wise? Mega. |

7500mls; centre section of exhaust replaced - flexible joint fractured. Otherwise fine. |

Various rattles - most noticable drivers side window. Upon investigation, there were 2 huge washers free in the bottom of the drivers door and no nut to secure the bottom of the metal piece which holds the window in place. Horrible noise when changing gear, attributed to misplaced hand brake cable, not ever quite fixed by dealer Leaky drivers side mirror cheater That's it I think. Not the best built car in the world, but better than my mk1. Darren |

3000 miles since August...zero defects! Performance getting better all the time as engine loosens up FWIW, car was supplied by Baments in Northampton and was stock from factory (cancelled order) so plenty of time for good PDI,I guess. |

Well DONE MGR! Looks like they did take the time when re-skining the MGF to put right almost everything. I don't expect any car to be 100% but i honesty think MGR have made the grade.........Well Done! Mega. |

7,200 miles and no problems at all. I can't tell you what a nice change it makes from my MGF. Angela |

10000 miles, only one visit back to MGR to adjust the handbrake as the interior light kept flashing on. My TF is my first MG and I couldn't be happier also have found this BBS very informative. |

Like the previous thread, this is my first MG. I have covered nearly 10k and despite my initial knocking problem which required the front bushes/wishbones being replaced (badly machined) I am happy with it. Noticable improvement in performance in the last 2k as the engine really started to loosen up. On the downside, the wheels are a bugger to keep clean. Steve TF160 in Tahiti Blue (a few rattles&squeaks, but nothing to worry about) |

You know its a delight to post something posative about MGR. Yes their not going to be totally bomb proof, but thats not the point. Its the fact that MGR are almost there, they have tried and almost made the grade thats nice. Lot of people think that i kick off at the first slight of trouble. I don't!, I can live with a few things going pear shape now and again. Even adds a little "personaly" to the mix. What i WILL NOT except is the pile of nonsence the MGF/Bits and bobs metro was. Come on MGR, you can do it if you try! Mega |

<<I can live with a few things going pear shape now and again>>. You need to, driving round in a Honda..!! |

>On the downside, the wheels are a bugger to keep clean. Have a look at EBC Greenstuff or Black Kevlar brake pads on the front. They produce a lot less brake dust than standard pads, they also give you more feel and much better braking performance. |

Talking of Hondas - did anyone see the TV programme where they have found the perfect use for them? Sky divers cut the tops off then heave them onto an aircraft with a rear tailgate, then at a suitable height (many thousands of feet) they get into the car and someone then pushes it out of the plane, they then 'drive' the car until a suitable distance from the ground when they tip the car over, fall out and deploy their 'chutes. The car is left to its own devices but generally hits the deck with a beautiful crunch and ends up as flat as a pancake. BTW this is done over a section of desert in the USA which is closed to the general public. The team said that they have found that the Honda is the best car for this purpose and they will always try and get one for the next performance. Perhaps we can persuade them to to take Megas car - BUT - with him strapped in:-) Ted |

TF135 Since May, coming up on 9K Miles - No Problems - fantastic car. Will try Greenstuff pads as brake dust on the alloys is a pain! Russky |

Gotta say my F was good for 20,000 miles with no problems other than the tracking (fixed when I got new tyres) the TF however spent 3 weeks in a garage with a failed starter motor. As for wheels and brake dust, the 160 so far does not have EBC pads available although I have been informed that they are on the way. Paul |

My 160 still ok -only 2300mls so far though. Build is a lot better than my old F. Yeup! keeping front wheels clean is a pain- Autoglyms stuff is good, I used Halfords wheel cleaner once and it started to take the red off the calipers!!!. Fitted the (Moss) hardtop I had for my olf F, fits the TF even better?? Oh I think the Kenwood radio's menu / layout was designed by sadists!!!! Car seems quit grippy even in this horible November weather, any one had the rear step out yet??? Keep on F ing!! Pete |

Had the rear step out about a month ago when exiting a roundabout, just after a rain shower. Scary at first, but then I thought "Lets do that again!!" I think there was deisel on the road as I have not been able to repeat stepping the back out so easily. Cheers, Russky |

Apart from that, the thing sticks to the road... |

Russ...where was the diesel? Richard Arnold (Northants OC) also hit diesel recently around Northants area, and "came off" big time...spoiled his F! (about £2K insurance claim). He has contacted Northants Council, and they are referring matter to their insurers..more evidence could help his claim on them? |
