MG MGF Technical - TF tyre pressures
Notice that the rear tyre pressures on the TF are higher than the MGF, and I am interested as to why springs should require a higher pressure than the hydrogas. I am sure the answer is in the archives, but I cannot find it. Please can anybody point me in the right direction or give me a summary as to the reason why. Many thanks. Chris |

How much higher? Mine are set at 28 rear, 26 front (TF160). Still get understeer though. |

TF tyres pressures are the same (I think, IIRC) as MGF tyre pressures with the same tyres: 26-28 front, 36rear. Mad if you ask me. Currently running 32psi all round :o) Nice and neutral handling, with nice throttle-adjustable steering on the limit :o) |

Without going out to the car park (how lazy is that?) the 28/36 figures sound correct. Furthermore, from memory the 26/28 quoted by Steve for the MGF sounds correct. The change intrigues me. Interesting what you say Rob, but as I am still running in have not had a real chance to fully assess handling and adjust accordingly. Might be more tempted to try adjustment if I know why it was set at 28/36 in the first place. Chris |

I was also wondering why the rear tyre pressure is so high in the TF as it goes. Noticed recently that the rear tyres on my March 2002 160 are rapidly nearing the legal limit with only 11.5k miles or so - not very impressive. |

TF160 on 16" are 26F/36R; high speed 28F/36R My rears lasted about 14k mls |

Ian has been checking the handbook! Same figures for TF135 on 16". The question is why so high for the rear? |
Chris Reeves |
mmm. Mine was at 1.8/1.9 (sorry, in kg/cm2). Today I inflate the rear at 2.5 (Mg values) and the rear has lost absolutely the grip, slippering each curve, when i accelerated a little... Never did it with 1.9 rear... Why this? |

Hi again. Any TF owner what has reported this behaviour on his car? At recommended MG tyre presure, rear wheels don't have good grip (2,5 kg/cm), and is easy to lose confidence in the car's behaviour, but when I've (under)inflated them at 1,9 or 2,0 the grip is really good! And why have MG changed so much the tyre presure among F and TF series if the tyre size and weight is the same? All this is with the standar continental premium contact, 185/55/R15 and 205/50/R15 Oh sh*t, I don't understand nothing at all! |
