MG MGF Technical - TF115 spark plugs
Hi all, I have a problem on my TF115: engine runs by 3 times instead of 4 times (a cylinder doesn't run) and orange light is on (sometimes like an arrow light indicator (on-off-on-off...) and other times constantly on). I unfit engine cover and I tried to understand what cylinder doesn't run: I've foud 4th did not run so I unfit 4th sparkplug and fit it in 2th cyinder and viceversa. Now 4th cylinder runs and 2th one dosn't. "Sparkplugs" I say: I suppose the problem is in sparkplugs but: - it's possible for ECU know if sparkplugs runs or not? Maybe ECU says "problems" because it knows engine dosn't run good? I'm searching for a new sparkplugs to replace unrinning one, but: owner's handbook say "GSP66527" but "champion rc8pyp" are fitted in my car. I've looked for rc8pyp to know their TF115 compatibility: searching by champion spurkplugs internet site I found champion build sparkplugs for MG and Rover up to 80-81 and not on! searching in "MG rave" workshop manual I found "champion rc8pyp" are suggested alternatives for MGF 1.8, not for MGF 1.6. And the Unipart suggested sparkplugs are different from 1.8 to 1.6 so I think: if rc8pyp run good for 1.8 engine they run no good for 1.6 one. Can TF1.6 have different sparkplugs than F1.6? Thanks you all and sorry for my bad english. |

Hi there, Sorry I can't advise regarding the spark plugs. Seeing as you've taken the trouble to contribute to an English BBS in English, hopefully someone else will notice the thread and respond. Cheers, Russ. |

The engine moniters the output exhaust gasses and can tell that the system is badly out of order because one cylinder is not firing (see orange light!). Can't help with the plugs, but they will be the same as Rover 600/400/200/416/216/45/25 (all with 1.6 engine), all post 97 (pre 97 cars had a honda engine). |

I unfit unrunning spark plug and I fit a new one (same type). Engine run good but orange light remained on (always on); I decided to drive however so I drove for 50km (going to office). Orange light remained on. In the evening I switch on my car to go back home and... voilą! no light, no signal about engine damage! I think ECU has to have "good data" for a long time to say "it's all right"; or exaust have to burn all fuel and it involves kms and much time. Thanks for your answers. |

it's number of cycles of the ignition (5 If I remember correctly) since the last 'soft' error. There are 'soft' errors like emmisions which self reset and 'hard' problems which include self tests which require a trip to the dealer. |

ok, thanks to you too, Will |
