MG MGF Technical - TF:- Rear window zip failure

Has anyone experienced the zip pulling apart on the rear window of a TF. I always follow the recommended method of zipping up the window before latching the hood down, but still I get this problem.
John Wilkes

Mine parted on the F and the TF looks to be the same zip. It is just a matter of tension in the zip. Zip before latching yes but I try to keep the hood almost vertical to minimise tension.

Eventually you need a new zip. Is yours under warranty? Else try a Coach Fitter from yellow pages etc
John Ponting

Yes, still within 3 year warranty period, but despite a visit to the dealer today for them to verify the problem, they still cannot say for sure if it is covered under warranty.

John

Check the more recent threads on here and on General - somebody has just had their TF hood replaced under warranty after they trapped it in the folding frame.

If trapped canvas is warranty then so is broken zip.

How old is the car? Obviously, some items are subject to wear and tear in use and/or abuse but ... we are told to unzip when folding the top for more than a few hours, and we bought a car with a folding top so it should be "suitable for use" etc.

Let us all know how you get on.

At the risk of repeating myself... ;-)

Use a hood lock up when zipping or unzipping the rear screen, this keeps tension on the zip to a minimum and allows relitively easy access over a windstop if you have one.

This and other handy hints are on Paul Lathwell's MGF FAQ in the hood tips section:

I wish the dealers would hand these out with new TFs, it'd save them and MG a lot of replacement hoods...

...what's a "Hood Lock up", I don't think I have one of those.....?
