MG MGF Technical - TF's exhaust Backbox bolts

I have just stuck my head under the rear of my car with the intention of taking off the back box this evening and replacing it with a new Daytona.

Spanners were at hand and i was all keen to get a start, when i become confronted with the Back box - Catalyser bolts.

Mine are not showing anything to get a purchase on with a spanner on the bolt side of things. Are these just studs, or have my existing bolts corroded away that much?

Thanks in advance for any help that will come
J Gower

OK, Ive just thought to look at the RAVE CD :(

The Back box has the studs, so I just need to clean up those nuts.

Sorry for been so stupid at times :(
J Gower

LOL - we all do it :o)

BTW be careful with those nuts - very easy to shear those studs. I should know - I've done it more than once :o(

Expect to apply heat - do you have access to oxy-acetylene?

Hopefully you'll be one of the lucky ones...

Thanks for the understanding, Rob

I ended up taking it all to the local Exhaust place, and parting with some money for them to carefully remove the old exhaust, and fit the new one.

It was fun watching them not cut the studs off. im sure they would have if i wasnt looking :) But now I have a nice spare exhaust.
J Gower

That's the best option to be honest. It's one of those jobs that really ought to be simple - but usually isn't due to oxidation... Good result though - how are you finding the new exhaust? :o)
Rob Bell

The new exhaust, in conjuction with the newly fitted Vadar is luvvly.

Quiet on the gentle cruise, but comes to life once you realise your late, and start to put the engine under load. Deep tone at low revs, and builds up to a throaty F1 wail near the roof.

My little nephew loved it yesterday when i picked him up from school. So it must be good :)
J Gower

LOL! You can't argue with little nephews! :o)
