MG MGF Technical - That Exhaust Mod (AGAIN?????!!!)

Washed the car and retreated the hood today.....Curious, but since doing THAT mod, my right hand exhaust finisher seems to be MUCH grubbier than the left hand one. Exhaust deposits, I mean, not road dirt.

Anyone else's the same and any ideas why???

Hmmmmm.....OK, fair enough.....

ha ha , is it something you said? Made me laugh Simon,i havn't a clue unless it's something to do with that pipe being nearer manifold?? Dave

Simon, the right hand pipe is the one with the valve on it isn't it?

I guess that the reason why it is dirtier is because it is more of a 'straight-through' pipe than the left hand pipe (more tortuous pipe length, passing through an additional 180 degrees of pipe bends). Therefore it is less restrictive, and the gas will exit through the pipe with the least resistance: the right hand pipe.

The gasses will also be travelling faster through the pipe = more noise, also = greater ability to carry soot particulates.

Once the gasses exit the tail pipe, they'll suddenly decelerate. Soot falls out of the gas and onto anything in close proximity.

Maxime, that thread is probably being archived, and not yet showing up. Wait a couple of days and it should reappear :o)

Until then, there is a parallel thread on Jerry's site: http://www.xpower-mg.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=4777

At least you have some exhaust finishers.
One of mine has fallen off through rusting of the steel spacer through which the exhaust pipe is exposed. I cannot get a replacement spacer without buying the whole finisher piece at around £80 (unless anyone knows better).

Maxime,

The thread is called "Great exhaust mod for TF 160 !!" and you can find it in the archives of the Technical BBS.

Tu verras, ça vaut le coup (quoi qu'en disent certains...)!

Jon, try sourcing one from a specialist breaker - a good list to start you off at http://www.mgf.ultimatemg.com/specialist_autobreakers.htm

Per,

Thanks, i found it in the archive. Yesterday it was not yet in it...

BTW I can't try it because I've only a MY2000 MPI so no valve for me :)
