MG MGF Technical - Thatcham Approved ???

I have a 1997 MGF VVC - dues it have a THATCHAM approved alarm/immob.

What CAT 1 or 2?
Rich

Initially when the F came out the alarm system was not Thatcham approved. However the alarm system did later (not sure when) gain Thatcham approval to CAT 2 (cannot get CAT 1 due to being a soft-top). It should be pointed out that the alarm system has not changed since the F was launched, so in theory there's no reason why all F's are not covered by the Thatcham CAT 2 rating.

is there a difference between the VVC and 1.8i? - I thought that I'd read somewhere that only one has the volumetric sensor? - maybe I'm confusing it with my wife's Rover 25?
Philip

Philip,

No difference between VVC and 1.8I as far as alarms are concerned. Jap reimports have no volumetric alarm fitted.

Your insurance company will know it's cat2 approved.
am i right that the TF does not have this approval yet?
Kingsley

I think there is a difference between the 1.6 and the others - perhaps that's what you were thinking of, Philip.

I think the immobiliser's the bit that actually does all the work!
