MG MGF Technical - The alarm going off

I lock the car, windows closed and roof up, and between three and ten minutes later the alarm goes off. Anybody got any ideas where I should start looking for the fault. It's a 96 N reg VVC model.

Is it parked near a kitchen as microwaves can set them of.

Mobile phones also set them of.

As for a fault not sure what you can do except go to a dealer for diagnostic check or adjust the sensitivity.

It has gone off in lots of different places. I have now given up locking it, as it is too embarrassing having to rush back and switch it off. Although on the couple of times that I have relocked it, it has not gone off again.

Maybe an electrical short somewhere - perhaps in the boot lid - giving the alarm an 'open door' signal. An alternative could be a problem with the volumetric sensor.

Might be worth popping around to a service agent that has access to Testbook - the MG Rover diagnostic tool. Should provide a log of sensor errors that could prove useful in diagnosing the problem.

If you lock your doors with the Key and not the fob, this will arm all parts of the alarm (boot, doors, engine) but will not turn on the volumetric sensor!(interior).

You could try this for a few days, and if all is ok then you will know its the interior sensor thats the problem!!.

Do you have 'Tracker' fitted. ???
One possible fix is to disconnect the battery and reconnect after 20 minutes which will 'ReBoot' the system as you may do on your computer.

Simon, my 97F has done the same since I bought it two years ago - I've put it down to a faulty/oversensitive volumetric alarm sensor and so now lock using the key rather than blipper as Mark suggests.

Many thanks to everyone. I tried locking it with the key and it still went off so then had a good look at the boot and bonnet lights and switches. It was the bonnet that was faulty. Gave it a good clean and the neighbours can now sleep in peace.

Anyone like to buy 96 MGF. Not in a1 condition so would be sold below guide price.
