MG MGF Technical - thought Iīd share you my latest mod
Itīs been quite a while since my last mod endeavour. Well here is my latest. It proved to be quite a lot of fettling. But all in all it fits quite well http://dennis.core-lan.nl/mgf/albums/album46/IMG_1223.thumb.jpg http://dennis.core-lan.nl/mgf/albums/album46/IMG_1224.thumb.jpg I didnīt make a "howto" yet, as it was more of a trial and error on this first handle. near side yet to be done |

David I've been having a bad day (spent most of it asleep) .... rather than a "how to" could I have a "what"? Actually, the 2nd picture made it clear even to me. |
John Ponting |
Hi John, We all have bad days;-) No worries. Especially for you :-D some higher res. pics of the MGZT/rover75 door handle fitted to an MGF with MKY2000 door panels. http://dennis.core-lan.nl/mgf/albums/album46/IMG_1223.sized.jpg http://dennis.core-lan.nl/mgf/albums/album46/IMG_1224.sized.jpg Guess I was all to exited, cheers, david |

Looking really good David :o) |

Where is the little plug to hide the screw head? |
PA Beet |
I'm sure that it is just waiting to be fitted - David hasn't fitted the door pull tray yet either! :o) What really surprises me is how similar in shape the MGF/TF door handle surround is to the item found on the 75. So similar in fact, I am left wondering whether it would have been cheaper to standardise on one part? Obviously, the MGF/TF item must be a good deal cheaper than the R75/ZT handle assembly (not anything like as well finished) - I guess that this is the reason why the part wasn't standardised - but it does raise another question: did BMW/Rover Group originally intend to use the R75 handle in the MGF/TF? |
Rob Bell |
Well done David! You've got a 'first one to' n your name ;o) |
Erik |
The handle in the F came from the Rover 800! |
PA Beet |
Bet it pre-dates even that Patrick...! I guess we're lucky not to receive Marina door handles: the original Discovery got them! LOL |
Rob Bell |
looks good and better than the originals dont know if I could be bothered to spend all that time on making the change though F original exterior handles look good, although again not as good as 75 ally handles which are lovely esp with the chrome strip |

In the OEM handle, thereīs no plastic clip to cover the screw neither. but then, the screw is black. In this case I needed a longer screw and couldnīt find any appropriate black screws. So I moved on with a ss item. But I guess the plugs as found on your mirror cheater will fit perfectly! Nope didnīt fit the tray either, just too exited to et a picture. Fact is that fittint the door pull makes you damage the door pod as is a real tight fit. Donīt like that. cheers, david. thanks for the comments. Iīll be making a DIY guide though. for those who donīt want to go through the endeavour, I just might make a small kit. donno yet |

And talking of pre-dates :- The optional extra Chrome Ash Tray for the early *F* comes complete with A BL Logo underneath! |
Ted Newman |
I wouldn't know Ted - I've got a jaguar ash tray in mine (which admittedly, is from the BL days! LOL) |

The F internal handles were designed for the 800. I did a very small amount of work with the company responsible to the design and manufacture. A team of 6 people working on the design of a door handle - how crap a job is that? It was orginally supposed to be plastic with a chrome effect finish (Leyland commitment to doing things as cheaply as possible!). Unfortunately EVERYONE who used them instantly knew they were plastic and thought them very cheap, hence the move to metal before launch. On the 75 door handle this defintely has a screw cover in the 75. Apparently it is a BMW standard that no screw heads should be visible in the cabin. Time for bed Patrick |

@David Thanks for making it clear for simple me. Later pics show it well. Looks quite nice. Will you be producing a kit with instructions for my TF? :-) |
John Ponting |
John, since I have the TF doorcards, that shouldnīt be a problem. But first I need to find a better fitting of the chrome ring. I am not yet satisfied with how it stays in place. Iīll have to bring the R75 handle a little more outwards so the clips on the ring fit better. Shouldnīt be a problem. cheers, david |

hi guys, finished the project today. Gave in to "some discnering owners" *LOL* and hid some screws. http://dennis.core-lan.nl/mgf/albums/album46/handle1.sized.jpg http://dennis.core-lan.nl/mgf/albums/album46/IMG_1284.sized.jpg http://dennis.core-lan.nl/mgf/albums/album46/handle2.sized.jpg http://dennis.core-lan.nl/mgf/albums/album46/IMG_1289.sized.jpg Hope you like it! regards, david. |

It looks good. I love the oval ones. |

Really nice - look forward to seeing some daytime pictures of the handles in context of the rest of the interior - but it really is stunning. Great work! Don't forget to do a 'how to' :o) |
