MG MGF Technical - Throttle body
I want to change my plastic throttle body to the 52mm trophy version. Is it a straight swop or is there any little tricks to be aware of? |
Nkosi_Ecosse |
It's a straight swap, even the ECU re-adjusts it's self. |
Andrew Regens |
John, you will need to reset the stepper motor. |

Better still, remove the throttle position sensor from your existing plastic throttle body, and bolt it to your new throttle body. This will avoid any potential calibration problems when you swap the two throttle bodies over. :o) |
Rob Bell |
Rob, Do you have any instructions for swapping the sensor out? Keep on meaning to change the TB but never manage to get around it it (HAd one sittin gin the garage since Feb!!!!) Les |

Not on line yet - the photographs I have are for projection slides (there is a story behind this!) - so I need access to a scanner that can digitise them. But the instructions are written... It is actually very simple. The TPS is simply bolted onto the throttle body - unscrew, remove, replace, bolt on kind of stuff really. The throttle body is similarly simple - I definitely recommend using a 10mm rachet spanner though - getting to the retaining bolt under the rear deck panel is a pain other wise. Steve Taylor, on MG-Rover.org wrote some instructions for the R200 - effectively, it is the same procedure for the MGF too... http://mg-rover.org/howdoi/showart.php?ArtID=281 Must get around to writing the MGF specific instructions! |

hi all... where is the cheapest place (UK or continental Europe) to get a trophy (52mm) TB? Apparently Dell'Orto (the italian manifacturer) doesn't sell them directly.... Thanks Carlo |
Carlo |
Hi Carlo, If you want the Dell'Orto alloy TB, then the place to get them is probably the MGF Centre (second hand, and reasonably cheap). New they are also available from Brown and Gammons and Mike Satur. All will deliver to Italy :o) If you want the SU alloy throttle body (which is cheaper than the Dell'Orto item), which dimensially identical to the Dell'Orto, then you can get these from Burlen Fuel systems in Salisbury. IIRC they had some eBay adverts - so these may still be an option. Burlen Fuel systems website: http://www.burlen.co.uk/ HTH |

Carlo, try the Opel option. :) (Moto-Concept or DIY) I've still got the painted red from Scarlet Fever in _stocks_ |

was looking for the genuine Trophy TB (maybe 2nd hand...). I have a 52mm one off a Lancia 1.8 twin cam, but didn't like the idea of modifying it to make it fit (relocate hoses and linkage, etc.) Perhaps I better start looking for a totalled 160 VVC in some scrapyards... |
Carlo |
Also found on ZR160, TF135 and TF160 Carlo. :o) |
