MG MGF Technical - tonneau cover doesn't fit or does it?

I bought this second hand tonneau cover on E-bay, but now I have problems fitting it on. There are no 'flaps' (or what do you call them?) to attach under the trunk lid. Does anyone know how to attach this sort of cover (possibly an early model?) to my F?
Many thanks!
Leo

Leo,

I have an early F, if yours is the same as mine you should have a soft 'roll' on the back edge of your cover. Fit the front edge of your cover as normal. Open your boot (trunk) and pass the thick rear edge of the cover through the gap. Close the boot lid and this should trap and slightly stretch the rear (roll) of your cover - HTH

I think Leo has the Mk1 cover - this had no soft roll or flaps.

It has a wire bead around the bottom edge which fits under the bottom edge of the hood.

To fix it you fit one of the popper straps to the door jamb popper then insert the lower edge of the cover under the lower edge of the hood.

Work your way around the rear of the car keeping the the cover taut under the hood bottom edge until you get to the other side.

You then have to give it a fairly good pull to get the second popper strap on to it's door jamb popper.

You then fasten the cover poppers to the T-bar poppers.

That is of course if the both you car and the cover have MK1 popper fastenings.

Many people give up on the Mk1 - I did and had a Mike Satur Mk1 fitted!

Check to see if your T-Bar is set for a Mk1 then it will have 3 similar pop studs. If it is setup for a Mk2 it will have a pop stud in the middle but on the ends it will have small posts.

You have bought a MK1 cover, which is what I have.
With a little practice it only takes about 2 mins to fit it on.

Steve, Ted, Branko,

Thanks for all your help. Following Ted's advice I have just succeeded in fitting the cover on(MK1 indeed). It certainly required some practising but in the end it worked and it looks great! And since the weather is getting warmer and warmer, I suspect I will be showing it off to the nation at around X-mastime.

Best regards!

Good one Leo - winter and hood down is fun.

Leo,
spray the cover with a product like "Amoural"
(Well thats what its called here in Aus anyway.)
This product or teh like, protects the vinyl and also makes it look like a new one. Very Slick!

Cheers,
Branko.
