MG MGF Technical - Trophy Set up questions

Hopefully standard stuff.

I am after the correct ride height for the trophy, and also the best alignment settings to get the best out of the car. (nothing to twitchy , but nice crisp turn in with a hint of oversteer will do nicely ;p)

Also... on the off chance, anybody got a garage they can recomend near Fulham that is MGF friendly?

Thanks

Matt

Hi Matt,

IIRC the Trophy setting was 20mm lower than standard, making it 348mm. As for geometry, I find parallel rears and a slight toe in at the front is good for me, the Trophy splitter will help keep the nose stable, and your front tyres won't get munched too quickly.

Cheers Mike

I am pretty sure on my standard MGF years ago, i had 10 minutes toe in at the rear to stop the rear being twitchy, is this not needed on the trophy?

10 minutes on the front? (total)
M Lawrance

I have less front toe, 5 minutes. I tried parallel all round, was OK until the limit but got a bit snappy thereafter ;o) With the current settings I get a good turn in & only when I've really overcooked it does the back step out, with a bit of understeer acting as an early warning. That's on F1 GSD2 tyres though, you may find other geometry suits other tyres better (sidewall stiffness etc).

Are we going to see you on a track day next season..?
Mike Hankin

not my car i'm afraid. Mate has just taken delivery of one as his mum bought and decided she hated it.... so he has it now.

i no longer have a track car :( , sold the last one a few months ago, nearly to an MGF owner but he wasn't quite quick enough to get to the car.

I have a volvo S80 T6 now, not sure i could afford the tyre and brake bills taking it on track

I have always fancied a trophy though, so one day i might get one when the price hits rock bottom, not sure they are fast enough though
M Lawrance

If the Trophy prices get any lower they'll be quoted in aussie dollars...

You've got the tow car, now all you need is a trailer and a toy to put on it ;o)

Mike Hankin

well, i would have a tow car if i owned my own oil field.

Its a lt easier to hire a car, which is what i will do this year... unless my friend decides to take his trophy on track and then i will play with that aswell

Also try setting the tyre pressures to 28 psi all round ( a Tech-speed setting ).
Blue Pocket Rocket

I tried 28psi on the rears with F1 GSD-2s, and found it to be downright scary... I'm sticking with something around the 36psi that Rover specified. I suspect TechSpeed mean 28psi works for a tyre with a stiffer sidewall, e.g. GSD-3, or maybe they're hoping we'll all mysteriously fall off the track and go to them wallet in hand for some 'upgrades' ;oD
Mike Hankin

TechSpeed.... they still going? I also wanted to go to them and spend a fortune sorting my F out... then i sold it instead and got a car with spring ;)
Matt

Haven't found that to be the case Mike and in any case that's after they have sorted the suspension :-)
Matt
They sure are!!

Standard Trophy spec geometry settings: http://www.mgf.ultimatemg.com/group1/facts_and_figures/tracking_data.htm

I wouldn't mess with the rear toe-angle unless the rear tie-bar bush compliance is stiffened by the addition of spacers (available from B&G).

I've tried a range of settings on my car - and have summarised here: http://www.mgf.ultimatemg.com/group2/suspension/tracking.htm
