MG MGF Technical - Trophy 160 exhaust

Does anybody know if the Trophy exhaust has the second lambda sensor as fitted to post Jan 2001 cars?

Thanks

David

From Rob Bells's website:

"Early MGF Trophy 160SEs were homologated under low-volume SVA regulations for UK sale only. Therefore, a significant number of Trophy160s that were sold after 2001 were ACTUALLY fitted with a pre-2001 pattern exhaust system. Confusing eh? Well to make troubles worse, this model was properly type-approved and homologated later on (co-inciding with general release in Europe). These were fitted with 2001-pattern exhaust systems(!). These models can usually be identified by the presence of ABS brakes (these were not fitted to the early SVA-cars)."

Thanks Ian :o)

David, exactly as it says above. What model year is your car?
Rob Bell

Thanks for the advice.

Rob, my car was registered October 2001 but I have no idea when it was built/despatched from the factory.

If your Trophy has ABS it probably has the later exhaust. Easier just to have a look - if the cat has an exit pipe with a 90 degree bend then it has the lambda sensor post cat. If its just the cat bolted into the exhaust then it hasn't.

Agreed, an inspection to determine the presence of the ABS unit under the front bonnet, to the left of the spare as you look in, or having a look under the rear of the car and looking for the additional lambda/cable should give a definitive answer, but chances are that a 2001 Trophy will have the pre-2001 pattern exhaust. Best look for the relevant clues before ordering any parts though.

Just have a look under the rear at the cat. if it is about a foot long and sort of simetrical it's an early one.
If it has a longer output side with a sensor in it it's a newer style exhaust.
Simple as that, no guesswork.
