MG MGF Technical - Trouble removing rear Hydragas units
Hi, I’m changing my Hydrogas units; I’ve removed the front ok but am struggling to remove the rears. They’re disconnected from the fluid pipe and I’ve removed the mounting bracket so they are completely loose but I can’t find a way to get them out. Any help gratefully received. Rgds, Tony |

Bend the inner wheel house sheet metal carefully outwards to provide some space. Bend it back in place when you have got in the new unit. See also the reports in the BBS archives from back in 1999 (some pics ) http://www.mgfcar.de/hydragas/blownhydra2.html HTH Dieter |

Thanks Dieter, how much did you have to bend the panel? I think I would have to bend it by a few inches and I don't feel too happy doing that. Rgds, Tony |

Tony, can't recall, but I believe it wasn't more than an inch. Just a strong grip by hand to the middle (LH of the shocker) and pull outwards. http://www.mgfcar.de/defects/wishbonelever.jpg |

Dieter, thanks again, they're now off the car! I found that I had to "force" the units down onto the knuckle and was then able to pull them through. Rgds, Tony |

> I had to "force" the units down onto the knuckle Ooops, didn't you lift them up and remove the knuckle joint before you tried getting them out ? That's the usual way ;) |

Yesterday morning I called into MGOC ( I'm lucky that they're only 15 mles away) and asked the guys in the workshop for advice. They confirmed their method is that the knuckle stays in position and you pull the sphere down onto it until it clears the bodywork. The good news is that the spheres are out. Thanks again for your prompt and good advice. Best regards, Tony |
