MG MGF Technical - Tyre Pressures
Checked my Tyre Pressures on my TF at the weekend and they were 35 all round. Handbook says 26 in the front and 36 in the rears. I have covered 600 very bumpy miles and thought it was the suspension. Put the correct pressures in and what a difference it makes !!! Steve

MGFs have always been sensitive to tyre pressure, so perhaps the TF is carrying on the proud tradition! LOL I run higher-than-standard pressures for my F, I guess for the TF some experimenting might be in order?
Rob Bell
I picked up my TF at the weekend and I noticed the tyre pressures were listed at 26 fronts and 36 rears. 36 seems awfully high, particularly when you compare it with the MGF.

Sorry to hi-jack this thread, but does anyone running Bridgestone RE720's on an F know what the tyre pressures should be? Thanks, Leigh
Leigh
Leigh, hopefully Steve of Farnborough will read this...

Angela raises the same question I raised last week with no answers/ comments so far. Anyone know why the 36psi recommended pressures on rear TF tyres are so much higher than F recommendations - for no apparent reason?
John
There maybe a variety of reasons why a tyre is pumped to a particular pressure, and I do not pretend to know them! I wonder whether it has anything to do with the surprisingly extreme (compared to MGF anyway) rear wheel toe-in on static measurement: 0 deg 15' toe-in versus 0 deg 10' toe-in for the TF and F respectively?
Rob Bell
What is the general feeling on the pressures at the rear of the mpi F. If I run at the reccommended settings I get terrible wear at the middle with loads of tread at the outside. I now run at 32 psi instead of the 28 recommended. This however gives a slightly bouncy ride. Any thoughts?

Surely, increasing tyre pressures causes wear to be in the middle of the tread, not theother way round

>>Sorry to hi-jack this thread, but does anyone running Bridgestone RE720's on an F know what the tyre pressures should be?<< I run my RE720s at the pressure recommended for the standard NCTs; I have 185/55R15 (front) at 26psi and 205/50R15 (rear) at 28psi (i'm working from memory as my F is out today). I have had absolutely no problems with the RE720s, even when a rear below 10psi (punctured) it gave no problems - just a gentle hint that it wasn't well. The RE720s seem *far* less sensitive to pressure than the NCTs Steve

>>>>Surely, increasing tyre pressures causes wear to be in the middle of the tread, not theother way round Yes, that's right. I find that small deviations from the quoted value have more effect on ride quality than tyre wear, though. F1s seem especially sensitive to pressure - which is sort of good as you can easily set the ride quality just as you like!

Thanks Steve (and Dave!), I'll check the pressures tomorrow, as I've not done them for a while. They seem to be wearing well so that's a good sign! Re720's have been excellent on my car too. Well worth the money. I think their consistency could be attributable to the stiffer tyre walls Bridgestone tend to make. Leigh

Dave Do you mean F1's are more insensitive to pressure ( or sensitive?) not clear from your comment. I am running an extra 5 psi above tyre placard as advised by tyre guy to get more even wear. I had NCT3's before so I have no experience with F1's yet. Antony

All I meant was that the car really does feel more bouncy/floaty at 4-6psi more. This was mainly an effect I noticed with the fronts - and at high speed it just seemed to compound the F's front-end lift problem (I don't have a splitter yet).
