MG MGF Technical - Tyre Pressures

My Farther in law as an MGF with 215 tyres on it. After getting it back from the dealer in Cambridge they have set the fronts up at 24psi and the backs at 36psi. This seems a huge differential. The garage even posted a section of the manual to him for proof. But still it does seem wrong at the back. Has anyone else heard this?
AndyS

I believe those are the official figures.
i don't have my rears that high though.
Kingsley

My manual says front 26psi (1.8 bar) and rears 28 psi (2.0 bar).

Your father in law's setting seem tosh. Why didn't he RTFM?

Cheers

Patrick, is that for the 215/40 r16 tyres? my manual doesn't actualy quote for these tyres as 15" rims were standard
Kingsley

Patrick, he did read the manual and that said 24 fronts 28 rears, but after getting it back from the garage they had set it up for 24 / 36 apparently based on the latest guidance from MG.

I think the 24/36 pressures were meant for the TF which has different suspension etc. 26/28 is the recommended pressure for the 215/40/16 tyres on the MGF.

Anyway, as with geometry, tyre pressures are only recommendations. You should experiment to find the pressures that suit you particular setup and driving style.

Indeed, and the old 24/28 is my recommendation! You wouldn't want to lose grip on those back tyres around a corner now would you?

Just got new rear tyres this weekend. The thing is having just become a father I'm rather broke.

So this chap sold me 'Lee' tyres, they are made in the UK and is owned and manufactured by Goodyear. £40 each.

After driving for a day it felt awful, I thought that I was going to die every time I turned the wheel. Just checked tyre pressure and one was 3bar the other 2bar (as per hand book 28psi), all seems fine now both are the same.

Have I made a huge possibly dangerous mistake getting these tyres?
