MG MGF Technical - Tyre repair
How good are tyre repairs these days? On the way back from the body shop to get my dents removed I picked up a nail. Just my luck. :-( Nice clean hole 1.5" from the side. Bearing in mind the abuse my cars gets (track days etc.), how 'safe' is a repair like this considered? Thanks, Paul. (Can't find an answer in the archives suprisingly!!) |

Had the same thing happed while back to one of my 2 week old F1's. Had it repaired for about £7. Given the tyre plenty of stick since without any problems. |

I've never had a problem with puncture repairs, I even once had a tyre sent off for repair for a puncture that went in at a very slight angle |

Trust the repairer - if they say NO then buy a new tyre - if they say YES then go with it. I've had bike tyres repaired and then used them as normal i.e. orange peel on the side walls. A friend used a self repair kit on his bike tyre in central Spain and rode all the way home to the Scottish Highlands 2-up with luggage without problems. |

Agree with the others. Tyre types are always going to err on the cautious side anyway because it means they can sell you a new tyre. I had a nail in an F1 a while ago and it was fine after repair. Just make sure your sidewalls are in good shape! |

Took it down to the local National Tyres place who took a look. Easy repair. We both looked. Tyre totally clean on the inside. No sidewall damage. The guy there was very reassuring having himself done track days on his own repaired tyres. And he did it for free! And with a smile! And with a genuine interest in the car! My run of bad luck has ended I'm sure!! Thanks to all for their reassuring comments. Roll on Silverstone!! P. |
