MG MGF Technical - Tyre Suggestions
We have just had the lil green monster serviced & MOT'd (Service was not due, M.O.T. - technically it's first, although the garage we bought the car from did it last year, - was & thank god, track rod end on the drivers side was knackered!) Tyres were fine but the rears will require replacement in the next couple of months & we are looking for suggestions. The fronts are Firestone & the rears are a cheap brand fitted by the last seller. Also, does anyone have any thoughts on part worns. A place near us sell top quality part worns @ silly prices. Suggestions as always welcome. Cheers Sally |

Hi Sally, what size wheels have you got on your car, and what model do you own? The top three recommendations made on this site for tyres are: Goodyear Eagle F1 Toyo Proxes T-1 Bridgestone RE720 All are available for reasonable prices if you shop around (and can be ordered mail order - see the blackcircle link that appears in the advertisement banner at the top right corner from time to time). A listing of BBS-recommended tyres can also be found at http://www.mgf.ultimatemg.com/tyres.htm |

Sally, On the assumption the tyres are not that old, worn tyres will increase your braking distance in wet, so may depend on whether an all wheather car or not. Tyres are the only contact with road for braking and cornering, so if looking at performance from car you need performance tyres and I would go with those recommended by Rob. Paul |

Hi, I'd like to add Goodyear Venturas to the list. Directional tyre with attractive tread pattern, excellent grip especially in the wet, good wear characteristics (40K on the Rover rears!) and not so pricey as the Eagle F1s and other designer label tyres. Yes, I have 16" F1s on my F, I'm a sucker for big fat sexy tyres..... Regards, Kes. |

I rate Bridgestone RE720 much higher than Toyo (for what it's worth!) and I've used both. |

Think we might go for the bridgestones, if our man can get hold of them for us. If you are in the Manchester area then he is worth a visit. Prestwich Tyres. Fixes slow punctures for next to nowt. I hear that if you want tyres for a 4 x4 you can't go far wrong there either. cheers, Sally |
