MG MGF Technical - Tyre Weld
This might seem a daft question, but if you use tyre weld on a punctured tyre, can you still get it repaired? I seem to remember reading something about tyre repairers not repairing punctures with the weld?? |

From the Holts site Q. Can a tyre be repaired after the use of Holts Tyreweld? A. Yes. Should the tyre be safe to repair, Holts Tyreweld can be flushed out of the tyre. Always follow the advice of the Tyre repairer. |

Cheers Graham. Thats that then. :-) |

or.....my tyre place said no, if you use the gloop it makes a right mess and can't be cleaned up enough for a safe repair - maybe it depends on the brand. I do actually trust that they weren't just trying to flog new ones as they are a good indie and it was a general discussion. I think the gloop really is a get-you-home and I bought a spare steel wheel and jack for about £60 with the added benefit of improving the ride in a TF135! |

Think it's a case of some won't even attempt it because they will get their hands dirty. To remove gloop they have to take the tyre off the rim and pressure wash out the tyre weld. This is very very messy and they will get soaked as it takes about 10 mins, then they need to repair tyre, Most garages can do this but dont want to and i dont blame them, my local tyre factor does if for a fiver, or rather his apprentice does. |

Following your comments, I just phoned two garages. They said sometimes they can repair them. It depends if the weld has attacked the tyre rubber such that the repair won't stick... |
