MG MGF Technical - tyres wearing out fast
my tyres are worn on the inside edge & nearly bald and are only 1 month old but the wearing is uneven and lumpy and only on the front wheels does anyone have an explanation |

What tyres are they is what I would wonder? And then, how's your tracking/wheel alignment? |

Sounds like wheel alignment / ride height need checking as a starting point. Loads of stuff about this in the archives, just need to become a member - it's free. |

Hi Jimmy (again!) Tyres wearing in that fashion are usually symptoms of a failed shock absorber, although not always - a severely wonky alignment and/or incorrect ride height could be a factor too. If your shocks are more than 2 years old then the manufacturer (Monroe) wouldn't accept a warranty claim, so that speaks volumes for how 'consumable' they are. A shock absorber that has recently passed an MOT test can still be duff, particularly on the F due to the hydragas suspension characteristics. As Steve says, join up and search the archives for a multitude of info. |

Sadly a familiar problem in MGF circles - get the tracking checked - although it is probably too late to save the tyres currently on the car: http://www.mgf.ultimatemg.com/group2/suspension/tyrewear.htm |

I've just had new Front tyres - the old ones were four years old and just about to go illegal and it was noticed that had started to wear unevenly. I had a four wheel alignment done. The difference is amazing, the car holds the road better and I no longer wobble in the slow lane of motorways through tramlining. Carole |
