MG MGF Technical - Urgent: Anyone fitted a De-Cat pipe to a TF 135?
Anyone fitted a De-Cat pipe to a TF 135? Some advice needed. In the standard Cat there is a Sensor(o2/lamba?) When you fit a De-Cat you fit a MIL Eliminator to stop the dash light coming on. My question is where does this sensor now go, when you use a De-Cat pipe? |

I guess I would protect it (wrap with plastic) and attach it to something in the engine bay. Where did you get you MIL from ? Did you made it yourself ? I have a de-cat pipe laying in my garage for years, but I first need to find an elbow to fit between it (MK1) and the back box. |

Yup, tape it up and put it somewhere safe Gaz :o) |

Fabrice, I got the MIL Eliminator from Brown and Gammons in the UK. So when I fit the De-Cat Pipe I DO NOT need the sensor that I have fitted the MIL Eliminator to? |

Indeed, I think you don't need the sensor (as a sensor), but you can't remove it from the circuit, so you have to attach it somewhere. Maybe there are some de-cat pipes with a hole to fit the sensor back, but even in this case you would still need a MIL, because without cat, the oxygen readings won't please the ECU. IIRC, a MIL was just something like a resistor and a capa in parallel wrapped in thermoretractable housing, or something like that. It's an easy DIY job and worth 1 or 2 quid. |

Thanks to Fabrice and Rob Bell. All OK now. Fitted De-Cat pipe and modified Sensor with MIL Eliminator. Makes the XPower exhaust sound nice now. Cheers. Gaz. |

Gaz, Notice any performance increase? |

No power increases with cat bypass pipes - but usually a nice noise ;o) http://www.mgf.ultimatemg.com/group2/exhaust/catalysts.htm |
