MG MGF Technical - Vent Removal
Who has the knowlege and knows how? I wish to remove the vent above the oil temp. and clock gauges in order to replace the oil temp. bulb. I understand this is how to access the bulb. The car is a 1.8 vvc year 2000. I am worried about damaging the vent so any help as to how and what to be careful with is very much appreciated. Many thanks to you all. Chris |

Just carefully prise it out with a flat bladed screwdriver, you don't need to apply very much pressure so there is little chance of damaging the vent :) |

I used a flat metal ruler - wider than a screwdriver. A padded rag on the console as a leverage point. Out it pops. |

No tools, grasp the bottom lip(not the fins) of the airvent and pull, unit hinges out after a pop. |

Good tips. I need to do mine as well it has never worked since i bought the car (second hand). |

Got to do that too. For both dials. What type of bulbs should there be? I can tell they are 5W from the diagrams... It would be good to get them before prying out the vents... This is how to do it: http://www.apttony.co.uk/Servicing/Vents.html |

O Sander, The oil temperature bulb is a 12v 1.2watt bulb and is wire ended. (5 watts sounds far too powerful and is the power of the rear tail light). It is inside a black plastic holder that is removed from the guage by twisting it anti-clockwise by 1/4 of a turn. I understand not all models are the same. Mine was a year 2000 1.8 vvc. The clock was a different type of bulb in my case and not wire ended. I suggest you remove the vent and have a look before buying. You can drive around wihout the vent in place until you get both bulbs fitted. Good luck Chris |
