MG MGF Technical - Vibration under acceleration update

Replacement drive shafts solved the problem. The inner joint on the short drive had enormous play in it the long shaft not so much. Both replaced thanks MGFC.
Along the way siezed adjuster nuts on the track control arms. I had to drill one nut(LH thread) to remove it, not even the heat spanner would shift it. It's not available from MGR just a complete arm at £134.00 so thanks to MS who was able to supply.
Two sheared bolts on the anti-rollbar link. This car is a rust bucket.

In the process I drained the gearbox so I made a pressure fed filler from a two litre container and two tyre valves. It took about 30 minutes to make and test and only five minutes to completely refill the gearbox using 20 psi. Topping up is now effortless.

I would also be interested in some more info on this piece of engineering, please.

Sounds quite inventive. :-) and effective.

'Engineering' is too complimentary. I've taken a couple of shots but don't have a web site. They are fairly high res. so the files are about 560KB. How do you want them.

Ken Waring

If you email them to me, I'll get them hosted Ken

rust bucket? how do you think these cars will last long term. having looked at mine compared to my wifes same age vectra i think owners need to keep on top of the underside to say the least...........loads of waxoil for starters.............

This car is 96 vintage and has had a hard life and 100K plus. I believe it started life in Scotland near the coast. Does anyone know this car P311RGD? The rust on the front subframe has to be seen to be believed. There is actually a very small rust hole in the rear drivers side sill, drain hole closed and damaged. Plenty of rust in the rear wheel arch lip. Busy winter coming up. Now where did I put the welder and the wire brushes and........

Yikes! Obviously, we have it easy down south...
