MG MGF Technical - Vvc engine swap

We have just fitted a vvc engine into our mgf, problem is the coil packs fitted to the rear of the block have no numbers to identify which point goes to which plug, does anybody have an idea?

With the pair of coil packs mounted on the engine block and the connectors uppermost and the gearbox to the left:-
The HT spark plug leads are 1+4 and 2+3 where 4 is the spark plug nearest to gearbox.

Thanks for that info, but still have problem :( leads are in correct order, the engine fires up on what seems to be four cylinder ( all pipes are warm on manifold) revs for a second then dies, leave it five minutes and it'll do the same again, if you continue to try and start you can hear the odd fire off one or two cylinders.? Bit stumped at mo, any ideas boffins???

I bet it's a duff (or not connected) Crankshaft Position Sensor. Blue connector under the water pipes - onto the CPS sensor fitted to the bellhousing. It monitors the flywheel position.

I trust you fitted a matching ECU to suit the VVC engine?

Sounds like what happens when the ECU and alarm computers aren't matched. When you got the ecu for the engine, did you get the matching alarm computer? If not, did you have them programmed to talk to each other? If the engine ECU doesn't receive the acknowledgement code its expecting from the alarm computer, it shuts off the injectors.

Cheers Paul!, you were right, ecus were conflicting, reprogrammed them to natter to each other and now running sweet! Thanks for the comments and info!
