MG MGF Technical - VVC HT Leads
Can anybody help with a link to piccies & instructions for changing VVC HT Leads? They seem to leave the plugs and wrap around the engine and disappear somewhere under the throttle body. Engine cover is off & I'm going to change plugs first and then have another look around. Thanks in advance. Hope you all enjoyed Siulverstone |

John, Once you've attached the lead to the plug and routed the cable across the top of the block the easiest way to access the two other cable guides is via the engine grill. Gaz ('96 VVC ... Hurricane'd) |

Cheers Gaz, my problem is I'm struggling to find where the other (non plug) end of the HT lead goes and how I get to it. I guess they plug into the coils but where? and how? Is it an axle stand and get under job or is it really more simple than it looks? |

John, Grab a torch ... stand at rear of car. Peer into engine bay via grill and look straight down just to the left of the oil filler. On my '96 VVC the coil is visible here - can't remember if MGR moved it on later VVCs. Gaz |

John, I am in the office and away from the car. I also changed my leads some 3 years ago but hope the following is of some help. I did it with the engine cover removed and did the plugs at the same time! The secret is the replace the leads one by one and start at the plug end. You can then follow the old lead down the side of the engine and feel where it connects. You can then pull out the old lead and plug in the new. My recollection of doing this twice (son's car as well) is that it was done by feel rather than sight! Cheers Patrick |

I wrote some details of this and they are on the MGF FAQ at http://homepage.ntlworld.com/dotcomoff/ Just remember to do them one at a time and its easy. Well ok it's fiddly and you cant see what you are doing, but with a little patience it's ok. |

Thanks guys - I needed a torch, legs 6 cm longer and arms 4 cms longer then it was a POP. Car now has a set of leads that cost more than my first car cost but at least it should now start on damp mornings. |
