MG MGF Technical - VVC Rear Caliper
Can anyone tell me where I can get a secondhand rear nearside brake caliper for a 96 P reg VVC in the north east area. |

Mope, but i can tell you that it is the same as a 1.8MPi so this gives you more options. SF |

Would think you're best off trying one of the breakers such as MidlandMGF. They're in the Birmingham area I believe, but no doubt they'll happily post you a caliper for a small additional fee... |

Don't forget the caliper is the same as the Rover 800 rear also.... unless I am mistaken....here come the replies!! |
R Baker |
You're quite right Richard - they're the same as the rear calipers of the R800. Should be plenty to choose from in your local scrappie. Why do you need a new one Tommy? |
Rob Bell |
I bought a new one from Rover main dealer for £80. Whats the point in fitting an old used unit? |
Paul |
...propbably cos he doesn't have 80 quid spare the week before crimble ? |
David |
Anyone know of an alloy caliper, by any chance, that would fit on the rear? |
Chris |
Might be worth looking at the VW range of cars Chris. Certainly Mk2 Golf discs are all but identical to the MGF items in all but PCD - so one might then consider that calipers may also be suitable. Interesting question Chris - considering some brake upgrades? |
Rob Bell |
Certainly am Rob, I've always been a bit dismayed at the way nothing was done to the rear caliper when the MG badged AP brakes were put on Trophy's and subsequently TF's. Also I've had the odd nasty experience when the front has pulled up sharply, but the rear wants to keep on coming. I have spoken to Hi-Spec about having new bells and discs made, front and rear with the bells anodised red. I'd like 280mm rear disk, as per Hi-Spec usual upgrade for the 'F. However, I would love to have a nice alloy rear caliper painted red. I know Mike will be doing some at some point, but I want them now! Poor chaps got so much on keeping us all happy. My wish list is huge alone! Had previously thought of Elise calipers, but not checked out the possibility. |
Chris |
Don't HiSpec also make replacement rear calipers? If so, they are almost certain to be alloy too. |
Rob Bell |
They certainly do, Rob, and they are certainly alloy, however, it looks to me like a shrunken front brake. I'd really like ones that look like the cup car AP brakes, which I'd have if only they could accomadate a handbrake! |
Chris |
Mighten they not accomodate you and supply you with a larger rear caliper (perhaps originally intended for a larger car?) Chris? Just a thought. :o) |
Rob Bell |
thanks for all the info, I need a replacement caliper Rob as the one fitted has seized on the handbrake mechanism. Im informed by my local garage that the car requires a replacement caliper. The reason I refuse to buy a new one is because they are not worth 80 pounds for what they are! |
