MG MGF Technical - Washing/Polishing tips?
Can anyone tell me the best products to use to wash/polish and wax the car? Also, T-Cut best for removing small scratches? Thanks. |

I use Auto Glym products for all of the above, they work a treat. Their paintwork renovator is really good on the smaller scratches but try polishing first. Please note, I do not work or have any other connections with the company! Happy cleaning! Susanne |

Ditto Susanne. Autoglym for everything, don't forget the tube of ****** for the tail pipes. (sorry can't remember the name. |

Simon. Dont use washing up liquid, to wash your car , any number of Proper car wash products from halfords etc will do!. What colour is your car , is it metalic, if so T-cuts not a lot of use, Dont buy the colour matched wax that claims to fill scratches, Waste of Money!. might need to touch in deeper scratches with paint then Re-laquer, if metalic!. HTH Mark. Ps 2nd names not dinesmore is it?, just a thought!. |

I had bought a black T-Cut which came with a colour matched wax pencil/stick - don't they work? I have a black MGF (not metalic)and there are only really small hairline scratches around the door handles, boot lock etc....probably from keys....no real huge ones of any note! I just want it to be immaculate!! |

Richard- is it just called metal polish? That's what I've used on my tail pipes, brought them up lovely and shiny. Susanne |

Susanne, it may well be, Rich |

It's called "metal polish" in Halfrauds and "Solvol" to anybody who owned a bike in the past 30 years. |

John. Ohhhhhhhh yes solvol, proper metal polish. Spent many a happy Hour, polishing my nuts with that stuff!!!!!..... on my bike of course. Mark. |
Mark |
Arrr yes, many an hour spent with a old tooth brush around the spokes |

Had me worried for a while there Steve - thought you were telling about running a tooth brush around the nipples - but you saved yourself just in time. |

Hi Simon I recently acquired an American car polish called "Easy Off". It is straight Canauba Wax with no additives. Apparently Canauba Wax comes from the Brazilian Fan Palm.It is totally streak free and seems to seal the painted surface. I am somewhat of a car polishing nut and this is without doubt the best polish I have ever used. Roger |

Don't use a sponge to clean. Use a brush. Also, use a good leather chamois to dry then polish. |
Leigh Reid |
the metal polish is called autosol very good on chromework |

Ref, "Autosol", and as all Bikers know, best thing in the world to stand on a tube every Sunday morning!!. Regards. |

The T cut ( metallic ) coloured wax DOES make a difference to the stone chip peppered nose of an MGF. I seem to have thousands of tiny white stone chips - I'm not even gouing to think about going near those with a touch up pen. The coloured wax is temporary....but probably as good as you can get - short of a re-spray. I probably use it every 5 or 6 weeks. It does make a difference. |

Meguiars have a new wash and polish. The wash is excellent, removes a large number of bugs without hard rubbing. The polish is more of a polish/sealant and the bodywork needs to be completely clean before application (no being able to polish off that last fly carcass). The shine is unbelievable though, deep and rich. It totally transformed the look of my car. The wash and polish are part of Meguiars new NXT range. To give you some idea of the protection that this polish offers: After using the polish, my wife was driving the car and the lorry in front chucked an empty coke can out of his window, it bounced loudly on the F's bonnet and flew over her head (hood down!). There was a white scuff mark on the surface of the bonnet which wiped off. http://www.meguiars.co.uk/ HTH. |
