MG MGF Technical - water loss and leaking

i had a new radiator fitted on my R reg, and the car has been running fine, however i started to lose water, and through further investigating the leak is coming from the LH back, and is dripping quite fast and inline with the wheel arch. i have tried to look where it is coming from? does anyone have any solutions?

Hi everyone

PLEASE CAN ANYONE HELP ME ON THIS? I WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE SOME ADVICE.

MANY THANKS

Zoe, I'm presuming the leak is from the opposite side to the expansion tank, are there any other symptoms for example a rise in engine temperature, oil temperature, mayo on the dipstick, oil in the expansion tank, steam from the engine bay etc?

The obvious is the early stages of HGF, I hope not though?
P R Barnes

Hi
the leak is coming from the same side as the expansion tank, there is none of the other problems as stated, just a water leakage from underneath, inline with the wheel arch.

I hate to say this, but the only likely leak on the expansion bottle side is HGF above the alternator - a common variety of HGF, but one of the cheapest to fix, as there is no oil/water mix to clean up.
Dave Livingstone

I would say Dave has it bang on, especially following a radiator change; a change in fluids or parts in the cooling system seems to be the catalyst for a lot of HGF's, I read a theory that the fresh coolant will find weaknesses in the gasket?

Hope the repair doesn't cost too much and that you get the F back on the road soon.

Try the water pump. This is liable to leak at any time, never mind after a change of anti-freeze. Mine was leaking after 4 years from new, and dried up before it became visible on the outside of the cam belt shield.
Jerry Herbert

thanks for all your advice i will pop the car into the garage, hopefully it does not cost a fortune!!

i will let you all know
